"Noodles" is a name referring to the canopies in the parking garage of the Orlando International Airport. The canopy is constructed of approximately 34,000 feet of 2" OD tubing and is supported from a 3" OD tube frame.
We were contracted by Clark Construction and the Orlando International Airport to design a canopy to hide the exposed plumbing, electrical and HVAC piping. It was during fabrication that it started to look like a bunch of "noodles" so it became the "Noodle" Canopy.
The 2" tubing was custom bent using an in-house designed rolling system. The tubes were then cut, capped and placed on an assembly line style fabrication system. In order to ship these canopies for installation a group of custom made trailers had to be designed to carry them down the highway and through toll plazas. Orlando International Airport's underground garage with "Noodle Canopy. As you can see from the pictures, most HVAC, plumbing and electrical piping is undetectable by the tube. The second picture from the left gives you a view of the hanging system that was developed.
